Carlisle itself has important historic roots, and the Best Western Cumbria Park is no exception. The hotel is situated on the remains of a Roman Fort - Fort Petriana, with the outer wall of the fort running under the car park. There is also an 'interpretation' of the site, on display on the wall, in the car park area.
A must see, whilst visiting the Border City, is Carlisle Castle. The castle is the home of the Border and Kings Own Royal Border Regiment, and houses a museum which diplays uniforms, medals, weapons and artillery.
Across the road from the castle is Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, and further along towards the city centre you will find Carlisle Cathedral.
